The photography of Tria Giovan (born 1961, raised in the Caribbean) has been defined by in-depth, timely, and thoughtful subject exploration that intertwines the personal and the observational. A documentarian with archival intentions, she is the author of four monographs to date: Loisaida New York Street Work 1984-1990

by Damiani Books 2023, The Cuba Archive Photographs 1990 – 1996 by Damiani Editore 2017, Sand Sea Sky by Damiani Editore 2012 and Cuba: The Elusive Island by Abrams 1996.

 

Exhibited in the US and internationally, her photographs are held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the Library of Congress, the Parrish Art Museum, the Museum of the City of New York, and the New York Public Library.

 

Her work has appeared in Aperture, Architectural Digest, Harpers, The Guardian,

The New York Times Magazine, The Smithsonian, Travel & Leisure, Vogue, and in many other publications.
