Dimmitt Contemporary Art Austin is pleased to announce No Turning Back, a solo exhibition by American artist Monique Rollins. An opening reception will be held on September 4th, 6:00 - 8:00 PM at our Austin gallery. The exhibition will be on view through October 25, 2025.
Based in Italy, Rollins is internationally recognized for her vibrant multimedia abstractions that merge painting, collage, and drawing. Influenced by both the Venetian Renaissance and Abstract Expressionism, her large-scale works—alive with color, gesture, and movement—draw inspiration from masters Tintoretto and Veronese, as well as the improvisational spirit of jazz and rock music.
No Turning Back explores the emotional and intellectual dimensions of caregiving and motherhood, weaving together themes of femininity, identity, and resilience. The works oscillate between moments of harmony and tension, reflecting the layered complexities of nurturing and being nurtured. Collaged textiles, gestural brushwork, and saturated color fields create an environment where tenderness coexists with intensity, evoking the dualities at the core of lived experience.
Rollins reclaims fabrics and fibrous materials traditionally tied to “women’s work,” transforming them into painterly tools that expand the language of abstraction. In doing so, her work becomes both personal and universal—intimate reflections on her own experience of motherhood while also serving as a broader meditation on resilience, identity, and the transformative power of care.
Monique Rollins (b. 1980, Wilmington, Delaware) received her Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree from Syracuse University in New York in 2002. In 2006, Monique earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting, a Master of Science in Theory, Criticism and History of Art degree, specializing in Venetian Renaissance, and a Museum Studies Certification from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.
