Dimmitt Contemporary Art Austin is honored to announce HOME STATE, an exhibition of paintings by Texas-based artist Kristin Moore. An opening reception and artist talk will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025 from 5:00 - 8:00pm. The exhibition will be on view through March 29, 2025.

HOME STATE marks Kristin Moore’s debut solo exhibition with Dimmitt Contemporary Art, serving as a tribute to Texas and the distinctive landmarks that make it feel like home to the artist. This collection of paintings is centered on Houston and Austin, capturing Moore’s personal journey through two of the state’s most iconic cities. Growing up in Houston, Moore’s memories are painted with early morning Shipley’s donut runs, late-night hangouts in Whataburger parking lots, and countless long drives down the highways that stretch into the horizon. Moving to Austin for college opened up a new world of vibrant city life for Moore, one filled with the city’s dynamic culture: live music, art festivals, and a celebrated food scene. Having called both cities home, this biographical body of work celebrates Moore’s unique experiences and the locations that have shaped her life and those of many other Texans.

Moore is a visual artist known for her exploration of architectural landscapes through an atmospheric and cinematic lens. Her work oscillates between representing a physical setting and the idealized memory of a place. By looking to film as an inspiration for her work, Moore admires the framing, color and atmosphere which all convey a narrative for the viewer. She finds inspiration in the cinematography of John Alcott, Hoyte van Hoytema and Wes Anderson. Travel is also a resource for Moore's work as she references many plane rides, road trips and hikes up to overlooks. Moore's continued collection of archived photographs is used as the blueprint for her creative process. As she works, Moore refers back to these photographs as a guideline but also allows the painting to go on its journey. Throughout the painting process, she omits, edits and renders, resulting in the work becoming a veiled version of the original inspiration source.

Kristin Moore holds an MFA from Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles and BA in Art from St. Edward's University in Austin. Her work has been extensively exhibited internationally in exhibitions across the United States, Singapore and Switzerland. Moore’s paintings appear in important public and private collections across the globe including: Fidelity Investments Corporate Collection in Boston, Google in Austin, The Lincoln Hotel in Marfa, The Neon Museum in Las Vegas and The Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica. Moore lives and works in Dallas, Texas.
