Echoes of Tonalism: Michael Dines Solo Exhibition

Dimmitt Contemporary Art Houston is pleased to announce Echoes of Tonalism, a solo exhibition of new paintings by artist Micheal Dines. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 5:00 - 8:00pm with the artists in attendance. The exhibition will be on view through December 13, 2024.

Echoes of Tonalism marks Michael Dines’s debut solo exhibition with Dimmitt Contemporary Art. Dines's artistic journey has evolved considerably, with a strong focus on landscapes, although he is hesitant to categorize them as such. He views the landscape as a starting point for a complex interplay of tone, weight, surface, and texture. Emphasizing his greater concern for the relationship between tone and surface, he builds his work on traditional subjects, which serve as scaffolding while prioritizing non-pictorial methods of paint application. In his compositions, viewers can discern the drips, pours, and layers that reflect his abstract roots, as he seeks to harmonize these elements within the landscape.

Michael Dines (b. 1963, Parkersburg, WV) is a landscape artist who studied fine arts at West Virginia University and continued his studies at Fairmont State College with a focus on painting. Dine's work has been exhibited at the Marietta Museum of Art, Fay Gold Gallery and Peter Miller Gallery. His work is in the private and corporate collections of Elton John, Halle Berry and Coca Cola to name a few.
