Robert Sagerman, born in Queens, New York, holds a Ph.D. in Hebrew and Judaic Studies from NYU and is currently based in New Jersey. He works with a mixture of oil paint, pigment, and polymer, meticulously layering individual strokes to create textured abstract compositions. Sagerman counts and records each stroke, drawing from the kabbalistic tradition of meditation through counting, with some works featuring thousands of marks. His color schemes range from monochromatic to vibrant pastels. Sagerman’s works have been exhibited internationally and are in the collections of the Portland Art Museum in Oregon, the Karl Ernst Osthaus-Museum, and the Museum Für Konkrete Kunst in Germany.
